Light Form / ECAL

This project implements a facetted structure placed on a plinth to support the content, which permits interaction with the content by touching it. The installation allows different forms of representations and interactions to be explored with a solid display. In order for the shape to become a surface of multi-touch visualisation, it was necessary to design a shape in heat-welded semi-transparent plastic which allows the projection and detection of fingers from inside the structure. I then made a structure in welded steel which supports the system of projection and detection on the shape. The software used allows detection with a display that is specifi c to the faces and their orientations.

Geil, geil, geil. Generative design by Onformative, a studio based in Berlin.
“For us the generative design process presents a new way of thinking and a new approach on how to bring ideas to the market in a more effective and efficient way. onformative covers a range of fields from classical book design, to visualizing information, to experimental generative work. Our expertise along with an in-depth understanding of the project lead to innovative solutions that go beyond conventional ways of doing creative work. At the intersection of technology, design and emotion we develop innovative, cross-media solutions for our customers in the domains of culture, economical and education.”

Approxymotion is research project focusing on motion based forming. Its an attempt to apply the logic of digital design into the physical space.

Traditionally in architecture forms are transferred from paper/virtual space to building through fixed shaped moulds or as an assembly of many elements. My goal was to set the mould into motion, while maintaining the parametric nature inherited from the digital model. The result is a motion-form that computes between the initial motion input, the built geometry and its material properties.

The nested relation (corner cutting) from rough to smoothened layers display the gradient condition from the accuracy of robotic motion control to the averaging behavior of the elastic net.“ Petervikar

The FACETURE series consists of handmade faceted vessels, light-shades and table. Each object is produced individually by casting a water-based resin into a simple handmade mould. The mould is then manually manipulated to create the each object’s form before each casting, making every piece utterly unique.
