The “Pneumatic Sponge Ball Accelerator” is installed at the Tschumi Pavilion in Groningen / The Netherlands. The apparatus contains 1000 black sponge balls, which are sucked through 150m of transparent pneumatic tubes with the power of a normal household vacuum cleaner. Visitors can operate the machine with a touch sensor: They can change the direction of the airflow and watch the balls speed up, slow down and turn around. The balls reach a top speed of about 4m/s.

Magic Carpets, Casablanca’s Sacre Coeur Church | Morocco (by Miguel Chevalier)

‘Magic Carpets 2014′ by French artist Miguel Chevalier is an interactive light display spread out across the floor of the former Sacré Coeur church in Casablanca, Morocco. Covering it with a huge layer of light, the work references the world of biology, microorganisms, and cellular automata – as cells have the ability to multiply in abundance, divide and merge at different paces. pieces come together, fall apart and transform in shape at rapid speeds. the displayed organic universe mingles with a digital construction of overlapping pixels.

Radiohead / Polyfauna

An experimental collaboration with Radiohead, Stanley Donwood and Nigel Godrich.

Universal Everything were commissioned to develop Polyfauna as a free, exploratory audiovisual app, born out of Radiohead’s The King of Limbs sessions and using imagery and sounds from the song Bloom.

Set to a lunar calendar, the mysterious, immersive app is brought to life through touch and offers a unique and different set of experiences and encounters each time it’s used. A pioneering new collision between digital art and the world of apps, the collaboration sees the creation of abstracted, expanded and exploded versions of audio and visual work by the band.

Inviting the user into an immersive, expansive world of primitive life, weather, sunsets, mountains and forests, Polyfauna comes from an interest in early computer life-experiments and the imagined creatures of our subconscious. It is inspired by everything from the atmospheric landscape paintings of JW Turner and Peter Doig, to the computational life forms of Karl Sims.

In April 2012 myself and Elliot Woods were approached to create an application to project onto a car on a turntable, the brief expanded as the project went on, until by the end, it was to be a different car (of the same model) for every show, they wanted to be able to do multiple shows per day and the alignment was to be done by a member of the staff at the Landrover experience.
A challenging brief.
The building was finally opened in December 2012, the car takes approximately 10-15 minutes to lineup using 3 sliders and a rotatary control on an iPad, with a couple of buttons to spin the turntable around so you can check the setup.
It using 7 projection design projectors all running at 1920x1200, 3 for the back wall, 2 for the car and 2 for the floor, we also had to minimise any visible shadows, content was rendered at 4k and is all run off 1 pc. Color Burst
